Hot Honey Iced Tea
Yield:
1 Quart
Spice up some freshly brewed iced tea by sweetening it with a homemade Hot Honey that’s infused with two kinds of pepper. The result is a swicy take on classic Southern iced tea.
Ingredients
- 1 Luzianne® Original Iced Tea Family Size Tea Bag
- 4 cups fresh cold water, divided
- ¼ cup Hot Honey, recipe follows
Directions
- Bring 2 cups of the water to a boil. In a heat-safe pitcher, gently pour the boiled water over the tea bag and allow it to steep for 3 to 5 minutes. Remove the tea bag, squeezing to capture any excess liquid, and stir in the Hot Honey.
- Stir in the remaining 2 cups of cold water, cover and refrigerate until chilled. Serve in tall glasses over ice.
Hot Honey
- 1 cup honey
- 1 ½ tablespoon crushed red pepper flakes
- 1 ½ tablespoon black peppercorns (or mixed peppercorns)
- 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar (or lime or lemon juice)
- In a saucepan, combine honey, crushed red pepper flakes, peppercorns and cider vinegar and bring to a simmer over medium heat.
- Once bubbling, remove from heat and let steep for at least 30 minutes and up to several hours for a more spicy honey.
- Strain the liquid through a fine mesh sieve. Pour it into a resealable container and store in a cool, dry place.
