    My dad loves this mix and bought some for me. I used it – it says ‘add salt to taste’ so I did. I never had the previous version. I liked this one and was happy to fix it up the way I like it. I’m only sorry I live in the U.K. I’d happily buy it if it was available. Delicious!

    I left an earlier comment that the ingredients had changed and it was bland. I noticed that the sodium was less than before and since I already use no or low sodium beans, tomato sauce and fire roasted tomatoes, it was extremely bland. I added a small amount of salt to the leftover chili and it tasted great. Perhaps this could be branded as lower sodium for those who need a low sodium diet. I’m glad to have solved this mystery.

    So disappointed! I have used this chili mix for years. My dad first turned me onto it when he made venison chili. I made two batches Sunday night. One for us with ground turkey like we always do adding fire roasted tomatoes and kidney beans, and a pot for my vegan daughter and her boyfriend using vegan crumbles. This meal is always a winner. But not this time. It was bland and flat. I guess the recipe changed when the box changed. I’m looking for a new brand of chili mix. Too bad.

This had been a consumer request for many years. I am happy to let you know that the salt used was plain salt, with 1 1/2 tsps for Carroll Shelby’s Chili.     I am 53 and remember having chili made with this mix. Of course my dad used stewed beef. It was the best ever. Luckily I found it as an adult and use it every time. I adjust it at will. I will use half ground beef and half spicy Italian sausage. I will add beer instead of water. I will used a larger can of diced tomatoes with whatever mix will make the chili more to what I want. I will use black and kidney beans. Maybe some smoked or sweet paprika. Whatever I use, I prefer this brand for the base. Just disappointed I can’t find it at the store. Glad I found this site.

    Definitely changed the formula. You ruined it. I will have to find something else to use. Just don’t get why a company would change something that wasn’t broken. Whoever made that decision needs to be let go.

    Carroll Shelby’s is still the best. Have always added my own ingredients to add to or substitute for the given recipe. Don’t change a thing. I came in 3rd place at a county fair chili cook-off using your mix as a base, secret add-on was a can of lone star instead of water, and use good quality beef, I use stew meat that I course grind myself. Wish I could have driven Shelby’s AC Cobra 427. Keep up the good work. Negative comments like “where’s the salt packet” make me laugh.

    If I remember correctly, your previous box also included optional instructions for adding peppers and onions as well as using diced tomatoes in lieu of water. Those additional instructions were helpful, especially for a novice cook using the kit to make chili for first time. Unless I missed it, I didn’t notice it on the new box. When my son made chili (without the enhancements), it sure wasn’t as good as I remembered.

    I’ve been using this chili mix for 25 years and I agree with what insee.in some other people’s reviews. It tastes different. My husband and I both said it’s not the same. I miss the old taste.

    Wow, all these complaints about the chili and same canned response. Instead of apologizing, fix it and quit being another woke company that changed something for obviously the worse!! It’s terrible, pretty obvious you are losing customers over it!!

    Definitely using a new recipe. Salt content has been drastically reduced (1320mg to 200mg). Who knows what other changes have been made, but the taste is bad. NOT GOOD. It is a shame when companies tamper with a good thing to save a buck, and take their loyal customers for granted. Poor decision Reily Products. I will not be buying Carroll Shelby’s chili kit again.

    This WAS the perfect chili kit until they stopped including the salt packet. I don’t understand why it would be eliminated. It was a packet, so it still allowed for each household to manage their own level of intake. I would have given it 5 stars if it wasn’t for that. Can you AT LEAST tell us the ratio of salt that was previously included??

    I have been using this chili for 20 years plus, edit is absolutely delicious. What I just bought is disgusting tasting I can’t even kill it with ketchup. I thought it was the jalapeños. I always put it in. I pulled those all out. Put put salt and sea salt in that didn’t help, I don’t know what to do but it taste terrible. It’s an edible. I don’t think the animals outside would eat it. It’s terrible really sad never buy it again. I would zero rate this if you had zero. And you’re pathetic. Responses to everybody is pathetic. What you need to do. Is send some information on how to throw something in it to make it edible.

    This has been my go to chili seasoning for many years, we all loved it. Last 2 boxes are NOT the same. New mfg. can say nothing has changed all they want but something definitely changed. I never used the mesa flour, salt or red pepper – only the chili seasoning. It’s different. The chili taste is nearly non existent. This was the last package of Carrol Shelby’s I will ever buy. You guys messed up a good thing!

    Does not taste or look the same! It looks much darker and taste completely different, I’ve been using the same chili mix for over 20 years, my family always request it starting in October but I didn’t get to the store until November and here I am making it and yuck! I decided to serve it and not say anything and all three said why didn’t you use the mix we always had, well I did and it’s edible but I will never buy this product again. At first I thought maybe I used an expired can of tomato sauce but that wasn’t it

    Once this Chili was acquired by Reilly Products, some cost cutting and prices were raised. I missed having a separate salt packet to monitor my sodium. Also, the product does not taste as good as I remembered or might be because the price went up 50% at all the stores..back to making my own or using McCormick for $1.00.

    You have ruined my go to Chili mix. For many of us who watch our salt intake, this was the one and only mix out there that let the US salt to taste. Did you save that much money blending the salt in the mix? Now I have to go back to blending my own. So many years with your brand…..now its gone. Progress?

      Hi Paul, In 2017 the salt packet was eliminated from the chili kit. In doing so we did not add or blend that quantity of salt into the chili packet.     Have to agree the taste is way different. It might be the salt, but I rarely used the salt packets before. The last two times have been a big disappointment. This was my go to chili mix.

    Agree on different taste and also think it may be salt. Will have to try that next time and see what happens. Don’t see how how Reilly Co can tell long time users that ingredients haven’t changed. Unless the salt is premixed with the seasoning packers?

    Regarding change in taste. I have noticed slight change since salt packets were eliminated. For us just the right of salt. We now guess and sometimes forget to add.

    Been using for over 35 Years since our boys were young. They are all in 40’s and come over whenever they know Mom and Dad are cooking up.

    I love it! I flesh it out with stewed tomatoes with chilis, a few cloves of minced garlic, 2 jalapeños, 2 Anaheim chilis, 2 red bell peppers, a big chopped onion and a couple cans of kidney beans – oh yeah, I double the amount of cayenne pepper too. The smell fills up the whole house!

    The ONLY chili I will make. My family loves it. I use ground turkey instead of ground beef and add-in n black beans. I serve it over rice with sour cream and finely shredded mexican cheese blend. If I’m really inspired I’ll make corn bread to go with it. Delicious.
    Sadly, it’s become very difficult to find in my local stores. I haven’t been able to find it lately which is so disappointing. I’ll keep searching but may have to make an online order to get my fix. I don’t understand why it’s so hard to find locally lately.

    I am very disappointed that Carroll Shelby’s Chili Kit is no longer available at Walmart or any store near me. I live in very rural southwestern Missouri and have bought this chili kit since it came in brown bags! When my husband died almost two years ago I stopped cooking but recently decided to make chili. I was surprised and dismayed to not find the kit at Walmart or any store in my area. Whatever is the issue with Walmart needs to be resolved so the customer does not become the victim of feuds between your company and Walmart! And buying it online does not solve my problem of making chili tonight. It is bad company policy to force loyal customers to purchase your product online. I will not do it no matter how great Carroll Shelby’s Chili kit is or used to be, for all I know.

I always get great reviews from friends and family for this delicious chili. I recently made the Chicken Chili mix for my son and his girlfriend since they don’t eat meat, and they loved it as well.     I don’t know exactly how long I’ve been using this box & recipe, but at least 15 yrs. I am now passing it along to my niece who is studying hard in her nursing school. I made up a batch on Sunday last, and have had it every night for dinner with Fritos added, as is my preference. This was about the best batch I have made in many years, as I was married to a woman who didn’t like the Cayenne pepper pack added. So, without her in my life, I was able to add it and wow, what I’ve been missing out on! I chopped up half a yellow onion, a Red Bell Pepper, and a Green Bell Pepper, along with a can of Kidney Beans and a can of regular diced Tomatoes, tomato sauce of course, too. And I only used about a fourth of the flour packet, not making it too thick. It was wonderful. So, I want to order a box, which I will split with my niece. Thanks.
