Something is off with the taste and consistency. Not sure if just bad batches or if something was changed. I had one jar taste sweeter to my palate and was thinner than normal.we threw that jar out and bought another. The new jar was just fine. Same taste and consistency as far as I could tell. After using this product for many years when you have to stop and look at your food something’s not right. Hopefully the next jar after this one will be the same we all expect. Just asking for the company to make sure they are producing the same quality day in and day out. If there’s a mishap get rid of it and don’t sell it to unsuspecting customers please. This not only affects your current customer base, but could also possibly dissuade new customers.

I’ve been eating Blue Plate Mayo for 70 years but since the label changed so has the product. They keep trying to blame it on production but it’s not the same recipe. Now it’s more like reduced fat Mayo. The texture has definitely changed and now it’s runny. I’ll be searching for a more full bodied Mayo like Blue Plate used to be. They should’ve left well enough alone instead of cheapening it. I see I’m not alone in my observation.

Im not sure what changed with Blue Plate mayonaise but its definitely different. It taste alot more vinegary than before its thinner and seperates from the jar. At first i thought their might be a production problem due to the covid shutdown but 3 yrs later and it still taste horrible compared to what i have used for the previous 50 years. PLEASE find out what happened and fix it.

I have been a fan of Blue Plate Mayo for my whole life, I’m 66 now. As others have stated the product has changed. It’s thinner and does not taste the same as it used to. I/we refuse to keep buying this product as is.

Kim –
So my husband has recently been complaining about how our beloved Blue Plate mayo is just not the same. I told him it was just his imagination just because of the label change. Well lo and behold he is right! Made my famous coleslaw using all the same ingredients which includes Blue Plate for a big family gathering and it was not even close to being the same. Now I’m going to give Dukes a try. Reminds me of what Coke did in the 80’s. Shame shame shame!!

Wake up Blue Plate, go back to the old recipe or lose a life long customer of 72 years. The thinner, lest taste new recipe doesn’t work for me.

Waited all spring for creole tomatoes with Bunny bread and Blue Plate mayo. What a letdown with your new label product. 75 years Nola native, it is not the same product. It is too runny and not as rich tasting. Very disappointed! Ya’ll got a problem and other friends also notice a difference. Please fix it before you lose the customers that made you famous

Alana Carlock –
I’m on my 4th jar of mayonnaise and the last 3 were very very off. I just went to the store to try to find one that is not within the same date range of the other 3. It’s obvious that something was off in production. I finally found one with the date of June 25th 2024 (all others were dated between February 2024 – April 2024). It tastes more like what we are use to. I don’t like the taste of any other mayo so I really hope I don’t have to waste any more money on another that tastes off like those did. Sad to say I have 3 full jars that are wasted money. I hope the issue was corrected as I am scared to buy Blue Plate right now.
Reily Foods Company –
Hi Alana, We are sorry that you had this experience with Blue Plate Mayonnaise. Yes we had experienced an operation issue, and it has be resolved. As a southeast Louisiana native & resident of New Orleans, Blue Plate Mayonnaise remains the same SUPERIOR quality it always has. All this discussion about a different taste after the new label design is all in people’s heads. It’s ridiculous! I absolutely LOVE the new label design. Geaux Blue Plate!
Carol Hyde –
I have to agree with all the other folks about the consistency of this mayo lately. It is almost like ranch dressing….so runny and thin. Even when ice cold out of the fridge, I have gone thru 2 jars, and both were not good. Walmart brand soooo much better! There has to be something wrong, Please fix!

I’m 60 years old and have NEVER bought any other mayonnaise than Blue Plate. The new label “says” same original recipe but something is VERY DIFFERENT. The consistency is thinner, doesn’t stay on the knife easily. Please, PLEASE, figure out what’s wrong! The thought of trying other products is not something I want to do but this is not acceptable. You need someone in quality control who actually has used Blue Plate mayonnaise for a number of years. This person should KNOW this product is not turning out the same as it has been. And please HURRY before you lose a lifelong customer. 🙁

Hi Jackie, We are sorry that you had this experience with Blue Plate Mayonnaise. Although we do have a new label redesign for Blue Plate – we have not changed our formula or ingredients; it is still made with the same time-honored recipe, using only the egg yolks, that was developed in 1927 when Blue Plate began. Our customers would never forgive us if we consciously made any type of a change with Blue Plate Real Mayonnaise!

Troy Myers –
I noticed the change in quality of the Blue Plate Mayo from the last order of 12 jars I made around 2021. The mayo’s consistency has changed significantly and matches the comments here in the review section. Also, I have observed that the mayo original white color has changed somewhat rapidly to a tan/brownish color and the mayo tastes somewhat rancid. Something has changed in the manufacturer of Blue Plate, formulation change, ingredients, etc. Please go back to the original ingredients and manufacturing process from years past that made Blue Plate a favorite in our household even if it costs more to make. I will gladly purchase again once this is done. As for now, I will hold off purchase of Blue Plate Mayo until the old way of making Blue Plate is back and the reviews here have improved significantly. Will be buying an alternative mayo for now.

We people in the south knows Blue Plate mayo. Is the way to go !!
This is not my mayo I have had forever. I recently shipped a jar to one of my kids in the military!!! He asked what is going on with the mayo ?!?! He said he was looking forward to the jar, but don’t send anymore to him. Horrible !!
Please change it baby to the southern Blue Plate mayo !! That we all southern people love !!

I’ve eaten Blue Plate all my life, but now you’ve ruined it by adding all the oil. The taste and consistency have both been sacrificed, and for what? Did you thin the product out to create more profit per batch, per oz? Bye bye Blue Plate and hello DUKES!

As a native, New Orleanais, I was use to my Blue Plate mayonnaise. As I was making potato salad it looked dry and taste different. I added additional seasoning for a better taste. It still seemed off. I decided to research it if anything had changed. I knew without a shadow of a doubt the taste and consistency changed. My question is why? Will the company ever go back to the old ingredients? I need to know.

What is going on with Blue Plate Mayonaise? I’ve eaten nothing but Blue Plate all my like and I am 54 years old. The consistency is loose and not firm like it used to be. It also has a rancid aftertaste even though it’s within the expiration date. You changed the label and the product. Bring back New Orleans’ original Mayonaise!!! If I wanted this nasty taste in Mayonaise I’d just buy Hellmans! BRING THE ORIBINAL FORMULA BACK OR YOU WILL LOOSE MANY LONG TOME CUSTOMERS!!!
Reily Foods Company –
Hi Michelle, Thank you for your long time loyalty to Blue Plate Mayonnaise.
We are sorry to learn of your disappointment in your recent purchase of Blue Plate in that the mayonnaise has a thinner consistency and a rancid taste. As you know, this is not representative of our mayonnaise, and we appreciate you informing us.

Blue plate is the only Mayonnaise that I liked? Been using it my entire life and it does not taste the same to me at all. I actually went on the internet to see if anyone had experienced the same thing that I have because I’m telling you I know my mayo and it’s not the same. Did something get added or subtracted? Let’s talk about it seriously.

I have been a fan of Blue Plate and even remember being excited the first time I saw it on the grocery list at Walmart. I was so happy to see the creamy tasty mayo I had loved in the restaurant industry available at the grocery in Missouri! That was over two years ago now and it has changed for in a very bad way! It is not the same creamy tasty mayo. It is like Hellman’s in texture with a taste I can’t even cover up to make it work. Please don’t deny the change I am not alone in noticing the difference. Please return to the original recipe. If it’s money I know I would pay more to get the quality it was in the past!

Ive been a Blue Plate Mayo lover for 30 years but it tastes no where as good as it did in GLASS jars. I believe the plastic jars are leaching into the mayonnaise causing the taste to get worse. You dont find pickles or relish in plastic and i dont believe mayonnaise should be in it either. Vinegar, is also a cleaner mixed witj soybean oil ??? Please go back to GLASS jars.
Reily Foods Company –

Shawanna –
Used Blue plate real mayonnaise to make potato salad and for the love of god grease rose up through to the surface… I collected in pools on top… it was a waste of time and money cause not only was the mayo a waste my potatoes and eggs and all the ingredients that were used. It had this weird taste of rancid oil but it wasn’t expired… totally disappointed maybe this is just for sandwich use
Reily Foods Company –
Hi Shawanna, We are sorry to her that you had this experience with Blue Plate Mayonnaise. If you are a regular Blue Plate user you know this is not typical of the product. I have eaten Blue plate mayonnaise all my life and there is no other brand. BUT, the most recent 2 jars I bought set me on fire!🔥
Like I was looking for jalapeño juice sitting around somewhere. Please tell me that this is not the “new normal”. My ulcers will insist I switch to something milder. Very disappointed. I

Hi, I’ve always been a Blue Plate girl, but something is wrong!!! During the holidays family requested me to make potato salad and I did. When it was all done I scooped me a little for a taste test, and boy oh boy my mouth was on fire and I can handle spicy. I have never ever had a jar of BP like that. Well, at first thought I figured maybe it was interacting with a medication. But, no it wasn’t everyone at the dinner had same problem MOUTH ON FIRE AND HOT!!!! Threw the whole of potato salad out! I have since bought a second jar and got made my neighbor a sandwich and it’s HOT!!!
I wish someone from your end could try it, because there is definitely something not right! Giving it 3 stars because i love my BP, but it ain’t what I’m use to.
Reily Foods Company –
Hi Marie, We have forwarded your information on to our Consumer Relations department. Someone will be reaching out. Thanks for being a loyal Blue Plate consumer.

SOYBEAN OIL is the problem. Shouldn’t be consumed in anything including MAYO.
Reily Foods Company –
Thank you Lee, We appreciate feedback from all consumers. We hear and understand your concerns for the use of soybean oil in our product, and will be sure to pass this along to our product development department for their review. Blue Plate Mayonnaise, Made Like Homemade!
Linda –
Sorry, I cannot recommend. I tried and thought it tasted like old stale oil. Blue Plate sent me a coupon which I redeemed and the second jar tasted the same. It is well within expiration date. I’m curious that it may be storage conditions of the gricery store. Regardless, I will not buy again and will stick to Hellmann’s or my own homemade. Thank.you to Blue Plate for ‘trying’ to make it right.
Reily Foods Company –
Hi Linda, We appreciate all feedback from Blue Plate Mayonnaise consumers and are sorry that you were disappointed. Thank you for reaching out, and for giving Blue Plate a second try. We understand that everyone has their own unique taste profiles and that all products are not for all consumers. Made Like Homemade Since 1927!

I hope that anyone who accidentally gave this a 1 star rating changes their review. This stuff has literally changed my life. I developed an egg white allergy several years ago. Also, I moved to Kansas shortly before that. I took my husband back to my Homeland (Louisiana) for our honeymoon and totally remembered how special blue plate was. Thank god i read the ingredients (in high hopes that I could eat it) and I must have skimmed over that at least 3 times in utter disbelief that they only use the yolk. Praise the Lord. I haven’t had potato salad in years or chicken salad. Or crawfish dip. Y’all, things are about to get real in my kitchen. ♥️
Reily Foods Company –
Hi Jordan, Thank you for sharing your story. Yes, Blue Plate only uses the egg yolk in our mayonnaise. It’s what sets us apart from the other mayonnaise out there. We are so happy that you will now be able to enjoy those delicious hometown, southern recipes again!
Bonnie O’C –
Born and raised in Louisiana, I now live in Maryland. I can get by without some things, but not Blue Plate mayonnaise. When I visit N.O.L.A family I always bring enough mayo back to last till next visit. My family says if it isn’t Blue Plate don’t bother.
Brenda D. Stone –
The only mayo made is Blue Plate. If it is not BP it is an imposter. I am looking for individual packets of BP.
Cajungirl –
I live in Minnesota now and my dad ships me this amazing Mayo from Louisiana that I have got a lot of people hooked here in the North. I am getting the 2 new flavors in my box for Christmas that I can’t wait to try. This is the best Mayo ever.

For lovers of Mayonnaise (rather than salad dressing), this one is great but it s hard to tell whether Blue Plate or Hellmans are the best. They are super close.

My Son In Law introduce Blue plate when he brought some back from his home in Louisiana. We were Helmans people now Blue Plate is the only mayo in our house!
Diane Camel –
Having purchased several food items from Walmart to be shipped to me, I was a few dollars short of free shipping so I looked around their site to see if there was anything else I needed. Being a mayonnaise connoiseur (there are very few foods in this world that aren’t better with mayonnaise), I looked at what they offered. I saw Blue Plate, but being 100% yankee, I’d never heard of the brand. The reviews sounded good so I figured, what the heck, and ordered a two-pack. This stuff is GOOD! It is the best mayo of all the brands I have tried. I’m a convert.
