Chai Tea Concentrate

Yield:

8 Cups

Savor fragrant Indian spices in each sip of this homemade concentrate that’s both easy and economical to make. Store it covered in the fridge and mix a desired amount with water or milk to enjoy a hot or iced drink.

Ingredients

  • 24 cardamom pods
  • 1 (4-inch) piece of fresh ginger, sliced
  • 6 whole allspice
  • 4 star anise
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 16 whole black peppercorns
  • 8 cinnamon sticks
  • ¼ cup light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 8 cups water
  • 8 Luzianne® Original Iced Tea Family Size Tea Bags
  • Directions

    1. Place cardamom, ginger, allspice, star anise, nutmeg, peppercorn, cinnamon sticks, sugar, vanilla extract, and water in a large saucepan. Cover and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and let simmer for 15 to 20 minutes.
    2. Remove from heat, add tea bags and allow to steep for 10 minutes.
Strain the liquid into a large heat-resistant pitcher or container. Discard the spices and tea bags. Let cool completely, then store in a resealable container in the refrigerator.
    3. Make a serving of chai tea by combining equal amounts of the tea concentrate with hot or cold water or milk.
